Salutations Typospherians,
I apologize for not reporting on the type-in sooner, but the truth of the matter is that no one showed up and there really wasn't much to report, other than hauling machines to and fro on the bikes. I do have some photos and a typecast, which I may post at a later date. But right now, I'm packing.
Wild West Fest at Calico Ghost Town is this weekend, and I've spent time since the type-in getting camping gear and steampunk garb together for it, as well as taking care of my booth at Pomona Antique Mart. Will post on both of those, as well as Steampunk costuming for the broke and untalented (like me!) all coming next week.
As far as future type-ins go, I remain undaunted. I'll just start advertising a lot earlier and in more places. There are some really lovely places around town to have them (and type-outs), so I will make it happen. Hope to see some of you guys at the next one!
Salut!
-Anna S.
I believe the type-in/out to be successful needs just one person to enjoy the time spent with the typewriter - in or out - all the rest is just numbers. Sure the more the merrier and it is nice to share the joy with others but sometimes the timing may be just off - that should not (and I see it didn't) discourage you from trying again :) If you set the next one up within Wi-Fi range and advertise it early enough you may be joined by some virtual guests too ;)
ReplyDeleteWell, I did enjoy myself, and patrons of the coffeeshop enjoyed seeing my machines, too. I never even thought about wi-fi! I actually hosted it at a wi-fi hotspot and brought my laptop as well. I'm having a total forehead-slapping moment, now. Thank you for the suggestion; I may set up a Google Hangout or Skype conference next time. Also, the next one will be a Saturday; most of Riverside seems to be in church on Sundays the time that I had scheduled the type-in, which I also didn't consider. Live and learn, right? Thank you very much for the encouragement...and I will be posting that typecast and pics soon. Not sure if I'll get to it before Wild West Fest, but if not, I'll do it early next week. Thanks again! =D
ReplyDeleteShoot! I'm sorry to hear that the synergy wasn't there. Proceed undaunted, Brave Knight of the Typosphere!
ReplyDeleteIt happens! I shall not be daunted! Now, where did I park my horse...
DeleteDang - sorry to hear that. Keep the spirits high ... and type on!
ReplyDeleteDefinitely shall! I may take a typer to Wild West Fest with me, too...but that remains to be seen.
DeleteNever give up. Michael Jordan was passed over by two teams in the 1984 NBA draft before being picked by the Bulls. The Beatles had their demo rejected from Decca Records before they made it big. Everything has to start from humble beginnings and you will remember this when type-ins become a famous national event.
ReplyDeleteAnyway, it appears you satisfied four out of the five conditions of a type-in, as specified in Section 2 (5) of the Non-computerised Writing Machines Act (2001):
A gathering of like-minded people at a given physical location may be defined as a "type-in" provided the following conditions are met:
1. The purpose of the gathering is primarily for the use and discussion of typewriters
2. The gathering is comprised of 3 or more individuals who may reasonably be expected to enjoy (or quickly learn to enjoy) using typewriters
3. The gathering is advertised publicly through appropriate social media prior to it taking place such that individuals as mentioned in (2) may be duly notified
4. The events and happenings of the gathering are described publicly through appropriate social media such that those who could not attend have the opportunity to see what they have missed out on.
5. The gathering takes place in an indoor location (NOTE: if this condition is not met but the other 4 conditions are met- then the gathering may instead be called a "type-out" instead).
Thank you for the encouragement! Haha, I didn't know there were rules logged somewhere; that's good to know.
DeleteAhh, the day when type-ins become a global phenomenon...
Sorry Anna. I know ill come out one of these days. My 2 little ones keep me busy... and that weekend just wasn't good.
ReplyDeleteMaybe next weekend?
I totally understand. Hm, next weekend...I'll have to get back to you about that on Monday. I know the 26th and 27th have already been planned, so I'll have to check.
DeleteHow have you been? How are the little ones?
